Otoplasty Newport BeachPublished on June 13, 2019 by Douglas Hendricks
Often people who are born with congenitally prominent ears are made the target of unnecessary teasing by their peers as children and this teasing can negatively impact a person’s self-confidence well into adulthood. The shape, size, and positioning of the ear can be corrected through Otoplasty–also called ear surgery. Otoplasty may be performed on children ages five and up, and while the procedure may be performed at any age, it is often suggested the earlier the better both to avoid unnecessary name calling and also because the ear cartilage is more malleable the in youth.
To perform the procedure, Dr. Hendricks places a small incision hidden behind the ear and reworks or removes the cartilage and tissue, next sutures are placed to close the incision and correct the angle of the ears.
