As we age, gravity has a dramatic effect on the soft tissues of the face. The skin becomes looser and prominent wrinkles can begin to appear. A facelift can improve the deep cheek folds, jowls, and loose sagging skin around the neck.

In facelift surgery, incisions are made well within the hairline and then follow the natural lines in front of the ear curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear and into or along the lower scalp. The skin layer is separated from the underlying soft tissue so that it can be repositioned and the excess skin can be removed.

The muscular layers are tightened to achieve a more youthful appearance to the midface, lower face, and the neck. Fat may be also be trimmed or suctioned. The skin is moved back and upward until a younger, natural appearance is achieved in the face without over stretching or over tightening the skin. The extra skin is removed and the incisions are carefully closed. The facelift incisions are well hidden within the hairline and in the normal creases in front of the ear.
