BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation can do more than just increase the size of your breasts. Breast augmentation is also used as a method to balance a difference in breast size, to improve body contour, or as a reconstructive technique following surgery.

Breast augmentation incisions are made to keep the scars as inconspicuous as possible in the breast crease, around the nipple, or in the armpit. Breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket for each breast implant.

Typically, breast implants are inserted through one of two locations - either directly into the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. A number of factors will determine where your breast implant is placed, particularly your body build and the final look you desire. During your initial consultation, Dr. Hendricks can illustrate which approach may work best for you.

Dr. Hendricks uses both saline and silicone breast implants. Saline-filled implants are more common than silicone. The shell surface of saline implants may be smooth or textured. If this shell breaks, your body will be able to absorb the saline.

Silicone implants are more lifelike, both in look and feel. However, silicone implants are not used as frequently as saline due to current FDA guidelines for use. Dr. Hendricks is happy to discuss the different types of breast implants and which one will be best suited for your goals.

The breast implant itself is a silicone shell filled with saline. Your breast implants can be placed in under two hours. However, we need you to stay at the surgery center for at least an hour so that we can monitor your progress.

After breast augmentation plastic surgery, your breasts appear fuller with a more desirable tone and contour. Although there is minor scarring, these scars will eventually fade with time. Our patients constantly tell out us about their improved self-esteem and how breast augmentation has improved their overall quality of life.

Although breast augmentation is designed to improve your appearance, it is important that your goals are reasonable. You must understand the risks and benefits of the procedure and be prepared to discuss them with your cosmetic surgeon during your initial consultation for the procedure.
