PRICE COMPONENTS

The cost to you for your cosmetic surgery will have three basic components, including:

  • a surgeon's fee
  • a fee for the anesthesiologist, and
  • a fee for the operating room.

Some fee quotes, especially those requested over the phone, may not include one or more of these components so they appear much lower than their competition. Some physicians also lower the price charged to the patient by substituting a nurse anesthetist for an MD anesthesiologist, or avoiding use of an anesthesiologist altogether.

In addition to the three basic fees, there may be additional charges as well, such as for: overnight stays, prescription medications,lab tests, blood work, extra supplies like compression garments after body contouring, surgical bras, etc. These items are usually extra. Be sure to ask before comparing prices.

VALUE IS KEY

As a patient, cosmetic surgery is an investment, and all investments should be made with careful thought and research. Wise investments are not always bargains. You can always find a surgeon who will perform your cosmetic surgery for less money. In the end, however, you may be choosing a less experienced surgeon or perhaps someone who is not board certified in plastic surgery. A complication is not a bargain at any price. As a result, thoroughly research the background of the plastic surgeon you intend to use. Verify the physician's credentials and make sure the surgeon has experience with the procedure you are interested in receiving. Consider the surgeon's credentials, experience, reputation, and your own comfort level so that you get good value in your choice of surgeon.
