BOTOX ® COSMETIC
BOTOX ® Cosmetic, the form of botulinum toxin approved for cosmetic use, is a popular way of treating facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes and in the "crows feet" areas (upper third of the face). Botulinum toxin works by weakening the muscles of facial expression. Once the resting tone of the treated muscles is weakened, the pull of the muscles relaxes and the overlying skin flattens. This approach is different than the other local treatments for the aging face. Collagen, fat, Alloderm, Softform, and Restylane all work by filling in wrinkles or depressions. These facial fillers are frequently not as effective as BOTOX ® Cosmetic in removing wrinkles in the upper third of the face. By physiologically weakening the muscles, wrinkles are lessened naturally.
Very small amounts of BOTOX ® Cosmetic are injected into the muscles to be paralyzed using a very tiny needle. Depending on the areas being treated, 5-8 needle pricks may be required. Discomfort is minimal and lasts only a few seconds.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic has been used safely in the treatment of muscular facial spasms for more than 15 years.
Restylane ®
Restylane ® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Like collagen, Restylane is injected into folds and wrinkles.
Restylane is made of synthetic hyaluronic acid, identical to a natural substance that already exists in the human body.
Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide long-lasting results.
In a simple procedure, Restylane® is injected into mid-to-deep dermis for the lasting correction of facial wrinkles and folds. Results from a typical Restylane treatment usually last six months or even longer.
